I love my Daddy. I was the last of 5 children and the only girl, so I guess I was a shoe in for getting some special treatment from Dad.
My Daddy went to heaven in October 2006. I miss him so much.
My Dad was a quiet man. As a matter of fact I have found out tons of stuff about him I never knew until AFTER his death! There were all kinds of surprises!
My Dad was a very comfortable person. He laughed often. People loved my Dad.
He had a difficult time talking about emotions, but I often heard him choke up over a tender part in a movie. I remember when I was leaving after a visit home from college and my Dad couldn't stop crying as I was departing. Then, when my Mom passed away, the gentleness and compassion he showed towards her let me see the depth of his love.
My Dad was quiet about his faith, too. Speaking to the minister that officiated his funeral I was made aware that my Dad often would speak of his relationship with the Lord to the minister. Something he was very silent about with us. But, I am convinced my Dad knew God and is waiting for me in heaven.
I had a little "thing" for George Clooney. Never had a crush on a TV or Movie Star in my life, but I was a bit partial for George. I found some pictures of my Dad I had never seen before.
No wonder I was enamoured by George...Look at this picture of my Dad! He was in his mid 20's here, on an Exxon Baseball Team. Is he gorgeous or what?? Move over George : )
And here is a picture of my Dad in his 50's at work:
And here is one of us on my wedding day! (to be scanned soon!)
So Daddy, if you can read this...Your daughter misses you and loves you. I remember the last day we had together and just how special that was. We shared more in that day than we had in years. You had such a kind heart, always willing to help out someone in need, giving to the poor and just being a good guy. You did so without fanfare and mostly when people weren't looking...but God was looking and I know He was smiling.
Some day we'll be together again. What a day that will be! Know that on this special day, you are not forgotten.
Much love from your favorite daughter,
Donna

Wow.
Hi Donna -
Just wanted to tell you that I loved your blog. It is so filled with warmth and spirituality and sweetness and love. Your tribute to your Dad for Father's Day was very moving to me. I, like you, miss my Dad very much but he is always in my heart and soul. I was his only girl too, so I know the special connection that you had.
The pictures of your family are wonderful; so robust and full of joy is your Jonathan these days; I can see that for sure.
And your wedding picture; oh my, aren't memories great???????!!!!!!!!!
But Donna, I must tell you, I had to do a double take of the pic of your Dad when he was in his 20's; thought he was a movie star. He was really really good looking!!!! And in his 50's he looked like such a NICE gentleman.
You have a beautiful way of using words and pictures.
Laura
