Speaking of Grace

Today is June 10, 2008.

It is an anniversary for me...kind of.

Not a good anniversary, actually one I wish never happened.

But on June 10, 1988 my husband and I (on our honeymoon) were traveling in our cute little blue CRX, through Louisiana on our way back to Florida (we had been all the way to Utah and the Grand Canyon). When in a little town of Lavonia we had a horrible car accident. We hit a car from behind that was stopped on the highway, our car spun and a truck hit us.

Do I need to mention that it wasn't the best way to end a honeymoon?

It nearly ended our life as well. We were helicoptered to the hospital. Neither of us remember the accident. We were both unconscious. When I woke up, I didn't remember getting married. Who was that guy that kept calling me "honey"?

It took us around 6 months to recover enough to go back to work.

We received pictures of the wrecked vehicles, and it was a miracle that we lived. The little CRX looked like a crushed coke can.

God's grace was amazing on that day.

We did recover from our injuries and are so grateful that God took care of us. But...what a way to start a marriage.

Thought I'd share a wedding picture of Michael and me. We have...um.... "aged" (much like wine, of course) in the 20 years since the wedding!

Hey Donna,
I remember that horrible accident and how much pain you and Mike were in afterwards, but how grateful we all were that you both escaped with your lives.

Yes, not a great way to end a honeymoon, but a unique one.

Hugs from an old friend,
Marie
